2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Follows Mixed Response
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the necessity for a more defined direction.
Ismailer noted that the team is now reimagining the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Recruitment
The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Here is the complete text from Ismailer's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just finished your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a update, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re excited for that relationship to persist.”
Given your hard work and versatility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.
The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game demo was revealing. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the feedback to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our players.
The belief in this project increases every day. To boost the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Studio Head of the team. Following several months of discussions, Ben officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and background in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having devoted the recent years developing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting him in the coming days. We are all looking forward to keep seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
The President

Title Details and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in October 2024 in conjunction with a community playtest. Then, 31st Union described the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Face the rivals with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that change every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your valuable rewards? Or aim high, gamble everything, and pray your squad can secure victory? The choice is in your hands."
The game lacks an announced launch window or supported systems, but players can look forward to additional details as production advances.
